AVT Europe takes care of Vogten Staal from design to delivery

Vogten Staal, a prominent player in the decoiling and cutting of hot-rolled steel, has recently built a completely new production hall in Maastricht. An ambitious project, characterized by automation and efficiency. Two state-of-the-art decoiling lines and three packaging lines were built in this new production hall. To realize this high-tech infrastructure, Vogten Staal engaged AVT Europe. AVT Europe’s expertise in automation fit the bill perfectly and they were involved in this project from the beginning.

Vogten Staal: a turn-key project from start to finish

This was a complete turn-key project in which AVT Europe was already involved from the study up to the delivery. They were responsible for the engineering (mechanical, electrical, software and IT), production of the necessary installations, assembly, implementation, commissioning and coordination of subcontractors.

The project included among others:

  • Chain conveyor transport between the various installations
  • 8-ton gantry robot for lifting and moving the packaged steel sheets
  • 40-ton AGVs moving the tables with the heavy steel packages to the right place in the warehouse

Thanks to AVT Europe, Vogten Staal now has a fully automated and efficient packaging line. The various components – from decoiling and cutting steel coils to packaging and internal transport – are perfectly coordinated. The gantry robot, for example, ensures accurate placement of steel packages on the right table, after which the AGVs transport them to the warehouse.

The importance of customized solutions

Jan Van Landeghem, Project Manager at AVT Europe, emphasizes the importance of customization: “We specialize in unique projects, seeking the right solution for the customer and advising and relieving the customer in the entire process. So it’s not about standard solutions, but always about implementations tailored to the customer and their needs.”

For AVT Europe, this was an exciting project where their expertise in gantry robots, automation, internal transport systems and logistics AGVs came into full play. The collaboration with Vogten Staal is a perfect example of how AVT Europe provides complete turn-key custom solutions and continues to provide the necessary service and support after completion. And great collaborations are expected to continue in the future as well.
